Knocking on Heavens Door which is originally a Bob Dylan song has been covered by many artists. One of my favorite bands is “Guns N Roses” who did a classic cover of this song. The chords and rhythm are pretty easy so its a great song for a beginner guitarist to learn.
The chords are pretty easy to get with a little practice and not to complicated for a beginner guitarist.

The theme as far as I have played it stays quite consistent through the song. It is a – Down – stroke then – Down/Up/Down – pattern and each chord has the same timing throughout the song.

This is the most basic version of the song originally written by Bob Dylan but if you want to step it up there is a Guns N Roses version which Slash, the lead guitarist plays two fills and a beautiful solo. I will certainly expanding on this song and adding the GnR version in the future giving you the fills and the solo when you think you are ready for it. I have always enjoyed playing this version when I played in bands in the past.
